Hamilton Apartment

I don't remember if I've ever posted photos of my Hamilton apartment before. Recently I was looking through old Facebook albums and found pictures of my time living in the city. It brought back so many memories and it made me want to write about them.

After leaving McMaster University and spending another comfy year living at my parents' house, I realized that I needed to grow up. Yes, my short time at university gave me that in some sense, but my way was nicely paved. I had an unlimited meal card and I didn't have to work to ensure my rent was paid every month.

One afternoon I drove past a victorian mansion on Herkimer Street with a "For Rent" sign taped to the window. The house was so enchanting and mysterious that I knew it was the perfect place for me to live. After an interview with the quirky landlady, I had signed the lease, paid my deposit, and was told I could move in in a month.

That night upon returning home I announced to my parents that I was moving to Hamilton for the year. They were shocked at the news but happy I was doing it. I spent the month travelling back and forth to Hamilton for job interviews and finally landed a position at Sirens in Jackson Square. (HAAAAAA sketchiest yet greatest experience of my life. I loved the girls I worked with, but 90% the clientele was a tad on the terrifying side.)

I also was hired by Melissa Miller as a second assistant for shooting weddings, which was such an incredible learning opportunity.

My year spent in Hamilton was tough but so worth it. I learned how to work hard, manage my money, travel a big city alone, (hello, I'm from Bruce County where everyone knows everyone and our little towns only have one main street), and live independently. By the time the year was over I felt like I had matured and couldn't wait to get back home and really work on my photography business.

Anyways, if you're interested in more about my life in Hamilton read this, this, this, this, this, or this.

I just wanted to post the photos from Facebook that I found. My little apartment was so cute, and I was so proud of it!
